Age: 26
Current Characters: Farah Oersted -
Character: Keaton
Age: No canon age, looks to be early to mid twenties.
Canon: Fire Emblem Fates
Canon Point: Post Revelation
Background: "I may have a horrible sense of direction, but I'm a great judge of character!"
Personality:
On the immediate surface and in terms of first appearances, Keaton is a strong and serious guy! Very befitting of the leader of the wolfskin who should be fierce and noble. He strives to remain cool and collected, putting on an almost high and mighty air which is evident in how he greets Corrin upon being recruited in Conquest Ch.14, "I'm Keaton, your superior." There are multiple times throughout his supports where Keaton reassures the people he's speaking with that he's not happy or excited, definitely never cries, constantly makes sure no one "gets the wrong idea" about him wanting to hang out or be friends, and above all else? That tail of his definitely isn't wagging. He's quick to spin things around onto other parties, such as people looking for friendship and companionship. "But I guess if YOU want to be friends, I can deal."
... All this behaviour though? Barely even scratches the surface of how Keaton acts and treats others. In reality he is a very kind person, showing incredible compassion and being a lot more sensitive towards others than he presents as. He shows concern towards Azura not showing her emotions and offers to teach her how to express herself, only to end up making her incredibly mad in the process. By the end of the support when Azura ends up cracking a smile, Keaton is so relieved to see her looking her happy and her not being mad any longer. There are also multiple occasions where Keaton is brought to tears, one being when Hana insults his treasure collection. Even through insisting he's fine and that his treasures are his secrets, Hana notices the tears in his eyes. Of course he's quick to insist he isn't about to cry, and that is with his tail beginning to bristle up as well.
Speaking of his tail, the thing is pretty much a built in lie detector which quickly reveals how Keaton is really feeling no matter what he might be saying or doing. Even when he first meets Corrin in the Conquest route, Keaton makes it clear he could find his way home at any time if he wanted. However since Corrin thinks he would be helpful he says he can't really turn them down... Only for his tail to start wagging, revealing how happy he really is for Corrin to ask Keaton to join up with them. Despite his many attempts to blame his tail wagging on it only twitching, cramping up or other silly excuses, there's no hiding his true emotions. Really whether he wants to or not, Keaton is the kind of person who wears his heart on his sleeve.
Not that Keaton needs his tail for him to show his true colours. He's very expressive and open about his emotions to the point of expressing pride over how his feelings are always written all over his face. As mentioned he's bought to tears on a few occasions, and he's shown to act childishly to the point of sulking when other people don't understand where he's coming from or if they don't follow his taste in treasures. On the other side of things however, Keaton is also shown speaking honestly and earnestly with others, having no qualms over openly referring to people as his buddies or his friends, and even openly praises those who display qualities he finds impressive. In his support with Rinkah, upon realising she's something of a lone wolf he's quick to call her cool and admit that while he doesn't know what being a lone wolf is like he still admires those people for their strength.
So we know Keaton is very colourful in terms of expressing himself, but he's also quick to flip-flop between emotions. His opinion on others can quickly shift based on what they say to him, such as his support with Hana. One moment he's saying how he can't stand her, only in the next moment he ends up saying she might not be all that bad. The tears are quick to come when Camilla refuses to help guide Keaton back to a previous location, but as soon as she changes her mind he's cheering away! ... Only to go back to sniffling when Camilla says he won't mind if she doesn't take him after all. While his thoughts and emotions are quick to change, rarely does Keaton ever hold a real grudge or a proper dislike towards anyone for long. Even the people who bash his treasures hard he ends up forgiving, and while he doesn't always get off on the right foot with everyone Keaton does try to turn things around for the better in the end. Sure Arthur might be ignorant, verging on insane for not getting the appeal of his treasures! But that doesn't stop Keaton from eventually offering to pick up trash with the guy... So long as he gets to look at everything that is picked up, of course.
As mentioned by himself when Keaton first shows up in the Conquest route, he's a great judge of character. And sure enough, he seems to be pretty spot on in his judgments of other people! Even before talking to Corrin he believes from just looking at them alone that they're a nice person. He also sticks things out with a few of his supports who come across as prickly and uninterested, such as Rinkah and Beruka, even when they try to brush him off or act abrasively towards him. Of course some of this putting up with and sticking out can be put down to Keaton not being the brightest of souls, given he's shown not to know the meaning of some words and seems to miss social cues such as knowing when a person isn't interested in talking-- But even then! He tends to find the good in people and point it out to them, or even just helps to encourage those around him to be talkative and friendly like himself.
Speaking of being friendly, Keaton is shown as being eager to please and always interested in making pals out of the people he meets. He's aware that his tastes and habits as a wolfskin don't always gel well with others, given the number of people who quickly back away when he mentions he has a treasure he wants to show off... But in his support with Laslow, Keaton says that "you always let me hang around and stuff, not everyone does" which shows he does appreciate those who give him a chance despite his quirkiness especially as Keaton is very much the sort to engage with others no matter the impression they leave on him or the reputation they hold, as evidenced with Keaton befriending the very intimidating looking Benny who is actually a gentle, caring person despite his appearance. Being incredibly loyal and friendly, Keaton is willing to throw away the things that make him happiest if it means those he cares for will be even happier. He'll also threaten and even strike out at anyone who puts his friends in danger, particularly the own members of his pack.
Keaton is more than just threats and fights though. In the Birthright route upon Corrin and their army stumbling into Keaton's den he brags about how he collected the bones of the humans that came and tried to collect his fur. What's more upon one of Keaton's pack members being killed, once he gets over the initial shock and upset, he lashes out at Corrin and their companions. "You'll die for this, ALL OF YOU!" / "Now I'll take your life in exchange for my friend's." It shows a side of Keaton which doesn't often come to light. A bloodthirsty, cruel side that revels in seeing the blood of his prey. In his support with Peri it's revealed that Keaton trembles with excitement when he pounces on his targets and that he gets a thrill out of seeing blood spurt from the enemies he downs with his own claws. Going as far as Keaton's S Rank with Peri shows this line of thinking isn't restricted to only his enemies, Keaton also thinks about the blood of his allies and he tries to scope out their weak points-- However he's quick to mention that he's never thought about killing anyone that he's close to. Still, it can't be overlooked that Keaton agrees with Peri that "murder is good, clean fun".
The wolfskin also bears an attraction towards all things gross and disgusting. Does an item have an unholy stench? Is it covered in grime? Broken and falling apart? Is it literally just an animal corpse? Whatever the item or object might be, you can bet Keaton not only wants it but he wants to show it off to those around him as well. He takes a great deal of pleasure in expanding his collection with whatever creepy and weird items he can find. This is a joy he continues to pursue even in the face of the many people who are upset upon seeing his variety of insects and bones that he's amassed. His love of all things gross shows Keaton's more animalistic side in how he loves the dirt and grime, doesn't think twice about how a human skull might not be the most appealing thing to look at or how he's not a very frequent bather. However he's also shown to be mindful of the tastes of others when the time calls for it, such as when it comes to proposing to his spouse in their S Rank supports. Corrin seems genuinely surprised that Keaton would go out of his way to present them with a ring, prompting him to exclaim "What?! You thought I was gonna weld together some trash for a princess?". The rings he finds or picks out are thought of as pretty and not at all like the sort of items Keaton would usually choose. This helps show that while Keaton is a little eccentric and his tastes are definitely that of a wolfskin and not a human, he can understand what others enjoy and will attempt to cater to that for the sake of making them happy... Even if at times he can come off as downright sarcastic regarding items that fit what you would usually expect when you hear the word "treasure". Silver, gold, pristine shells and the like? Wow. Great. A tuft of hair from a Faceless? Now THAT is true beauty right there.
In summary, though Keaton presents himself as cool and aloof at first in reality he's outgoing, friendly and sociable. His tastes are a little strange which leads to people expecting the worst from him when it comes to sharing in his treasures. However he's mindful of others, wants to impress and care for those who he considers his friends, and isn't afraid of doling out compliments or speaking honestly about the people he looks up to... Aaand if need be he'll happily rip up, tear apart and harvest the bones of anyone who makes an enemy of him or anyone he's close to.
Abilities:
Through the use of a beaststone, Keaton can transform into a large, muscular werewolf like creature. This is the form he usually takes when he needs to fight, upon which he swings around his large clawed hands and beats enemies around with powerful swipes of his arms. Taking a look at his stats and his growth rates he's a strong tank, with high enough hit points and defense to mean he can jump right into the thick of a fight and take a number of blows... Along with having enough strength himself to easily dispatch weaker enemies and bring the hurt right back to anyone that gets a hit on him. So long as Keaton ensures his beaststone is on him at all times he can transform at any moment.
As well as being able to transform, the wolfskin also possess heightened senses. He's shown being able to smell customers before seeing them when it comes to manning any of the shops around camp, and he possesses keen eyesight when it comes to spotting items and uncovering treasures at various gathering locations.
Last of all Keaton has a handful of skills that he either starts off with or learns through leveling. These are "Collector" which is more for flavour than anything as it references Keaton's love of finding treasure and it gives him a chance to pick up three random minerals or foodstuffs. "Beastbane" which provides Keaton with bonus damage when attacking horse mounted enemies or other beasts. Then last of all "Odd Shaped" which provides Keaton bonus damage on odd numbered turns.
Alignment: Elios. Keaton displays a vast array of emotions from both ends of the spectrum here. He's shown as caring and compassionate, not being afraid to display his fondness for others as well as being very open about what his loves and interests are. Be that gross objects or his spouse-to-be. On the other side though Keaton easily hates and distrusts those who hurt his friends and kill members of his pack, to the point of trying to take Corrin's life in the Birthright route. While arguments could be made for Daimonia and Piphron (his clear ability to display joy and grief thanks to his expressiveness and his trust/distrust of humans depending on the route you play respectively) I feel Elios best covers the extremes of Keaton's emotions and everything in between.

General Sample:
[There's a hard to ignore feeling of happiness and excitement as the connection opens up, though it's a little unfocused at first. Using the amulets and "thinking" like this is a new experience for Keaton, and in all honesty he's finding trouble getting the hang of telepathy. But man is he trying, and that's because he has a very important message.]
Hey there guys! ... Guys? Yeah, yeah this is working. Someone would tell me if no one could hear me now. [Of course.] So I just got back from a big hunt out in the forests and I figured, hey, why not share some of my haul with you guys? I mean man, look at some of you. You really need more meat on your bones so you can end up big and strong!
[Also maybe he just wants to share some of his spoils for the sake of it. He'd just end up eating it all himself anyway, so why not share things around a little? Like he said, some people could use some food like this!
The excitement seems to grow and become almost warm and comforting, a gentle fuzziness being brought to the connection thanks to what Keaton is feeling... Which contrasts heavily with the image of slaughtered deer and other animals he begins to share.]
So what have we got here, there's some deer... Can't go wrong with that. And I nabbed a few rabbits too, they'll do for a quick meal! [Heh. Get it. Rabbits. Quick. Okay he's moving on--] What else... Oh yeah, this thing! Looks like a weird cross between a rose bush, a horse and a beetle! I wasn't trying to hunt it intentionally or anything, but I was minding my own business when it tried jumping me. You could try eating it, but it stinks. Real bad. Cooking it might help but I prefer my stuff raw.
[And by "stinks" he means "smells like a flower garden" thanks to the rose heads dotted all over the horse-bug monster's body. He never intended to fill out any hunting guild requests today but it looks like he did by accident. Whoops.]
So yeah, that's what I've got. You don't have to take the whole thing if you don't wanna, the pelts alone can make good clothes y'know! Then I'll just hang onto the meat for later, maybe make jerky out of it if there's too much, eh. We'll see.
[Can't go wasting any part of his hunts after all, it's like a sacred activity for as fun as it is.]
Don't worry about paying me back or anything, I'm not looking for money or stuff in return. But if you wanna say "hey Keaton, nice one" then I'm not gonna stop you...
Emotion Sample:
[The problem with all these emotions and the effects they have is the number they end up doing on his nose. Earthquakes rocking the city, water bursting up from the ground? He can deal with that. It's when people start kicking up a stink with their emotions that he has a problem.
Keaton isn't a total idiot. He can recognise when a person is feeling happy from the scent they're giving off alone. If he's walking down the street and suddenly it's like he's being wrapped up in a freshly washed blanket or someone shoved a flower in his face? Then someone is having a good day... They're the sort of smells humans like, right? And they make them because they're happy here.
... So why doesn't he give off a smell he likes when he's feeling happy?!
Upon digging through a trash can outside of a Steambucks, Keaton comes across a collection of stirring sticks all stained differently. Some are snapped, others have weird gunk and dried on drinks stuck to them-- They're prime treasures! Naturally he's happy to find them. And then of course because he's happy... Keaton sniffs the air once, then again.]
Heeey! It's smelling like soap around here again! Come on, would you knock if off... Me? I guess?! Ugh!
[At his annoyance and displeasure the scent changes, the fragrant scent of soap giving way to a more sour, nauseating smell. It smells a little like stale milk on a warm sunny day.]
Oh! There we go! See, I knew I could do it, that's way better-- [His change in emotions only helps change the scent up once again.] Wait! No, come back! All I wanna do is sniff something that really clings to the back of your nose hairs, something with full body and aroma!
[Keaton's ears seem to droop down as he holds onto his little Steambucks horde, his tail sagging and flopping about behind him now as though its lost all life within it. With yet another change in his emotions the scent Keaton is producing switches up yet again, however this time Keaton only sighs and shakes his head.]
Seriously? I'm getting real sick of this... I miss getting a good whiff of things without other stuff getting in the way of my nose.
[Sure he can still appreciate the pleasant scent of mouldy food and clumps of wet hair, but it was so much more enjoyable when he didn't have to worry about the stench of soap and cleanliness always looming around him in his happier moments.]
